Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to confirm the factors associated with the health problems of soldiers in small units and develop a health promotion program for the small unit communities of the ROK Army, based on the PRECEDE(Predisposing, Reinforcing, and Enabling constructs in Educational Diagnosis and Evaluation) MODEL.

Method : The data were collected from February 10th, 2009 to October 15th, 2009. The research was conducted with the diagnostic phases of the model and the research included hospital¡¯s outpatient data analysis, focus groups, surveys, and interviews. Descriptive statistics, x2-test with SPSS/Win 12.0 program was used to analyze the data.

Result : A health promotion program for soldiers was developed based on diagnostic results using PRECEDE model. The program was composed of health education, physical activity, provision of brochures and bulletin board that have information included in the educational program in this study. The result of impact evaluation showed significant difference in the level of back discomfort and attitude of musculoskeletal symptom management.

Conclusion : The result of this study suggests soldier-tailored health promotion program should be developed to preserve combat strength.
